Wind Turbines

Generate power from the wind using a propeller. These range from 50W up to 10KW (10,000W). For houses requiring a lot of power, they are more economical than PV panels. They work best in exposed sites, free from obstacles that create turbulence. Smaller Wind Turbines, (such as the Rutland or AIR303), are ideal for most sites, being less susceptible to turbulence than the bigger Wind Turbines. The higher the tower, the more power you generate. A Wind Turbine 6 metres high will generate 4 times more power than one at 3 metres high. The wind is a lot less predictable than the sun, a bigger battery is needed to compensate for this. However, they are more likely to generate a lot of power in winter when you most need it.
